There's a special place in my heart when it comes to hurricane season in the South. If you're curious, I went to high school in Tallahassee, the state capital, and my mother, stepdad, brother, and his family still live there today. I went to college in Winter Park/Orlando area, another region all too familiar with hurricanes. And I was just recently married last year to the love of my life on the white sand beaches of Destin, Florida, on what is called the emerald coast for its sparkling green water and just adjacent to those areas hardest hit from the recent storms. If you've ever seen pictures of this majestic place or been there in person, it is truly a dream. And my wedding was no different. It was a dream.
As you can imagine post Michael, much of the area surrounding Destin, its neighboring beach communities Panama City Beach and Mexico Beach, and tons of small towns in between are almost unrecognizable, completely devastated.
When Michael hit hard just a few short weeks ago in my beloved Florida panhandle and affected the southern coast I hold so dear, I thought the least I could do was put together a list of brands and products in which to contribute your dollars whose contributions will go directly to the relief efforts on the front lines of Hurricane Michael. It's no giant gesture, but it's my tiny part in this huge tragedy that will surely take a great deal of time and patience to clean up and recover over the coming weeks, months and years. It is time for these families to heal.
So let's put our money where our hearts are and give where it counts. Let's shop for a cause!
